What are the key changes to the New Oyen Policy Wording effective 3 May 2024?

Starting from May 3, 2024
Changes to Note:
- Follow-up Treatment Coverage: Medically necessary follow-up treatment by the same vet within 30 days is covered, even if no surgery is required.
- Additional Exclusion: Special diets, pet foods, vitamins, and related products are not covered, even if recommended by a vet.
- Third-Party Liability Exclusion: No coverage for claims related to banned or restricted breeds (Doberman, German Shepherd, Rottweiler).
- Eligibility for Certain Dog Breeds: Dobermans, German Shepherds, and Rottweilers are eligible for coverage if they meet specific criteria (e.g., microchipped, pedigree certificate, Canine Good Citizen program).
- Free Look Period: You can cancel your policy within 15 days for a full refund if no claims have been made.
- Installment Payment Requirement: If a claim exceeds RM1,000, you must pay all remaining installments before reimbursement.
- Waiting Period Adjustment: The waiting period for new policies will be 30 days. Renewal customers are not affected.
- Exclusion of Certain Vaccine-Preventable Illnesses: Rabies, canine distemper, and parvovirus are no longer covered.
- Alternative Therapy Exclusions: Treatments like chiropractic services, acupuncture, physiotherapy, etc., are excluded.
- Parasite-Related Exclusions: Illnesses caused by fleas, worms, ticks, mites, and related treatments are now excluded.
- Expanded Hereditary Condition Coverage: Pets insured before the age of 6 will have specific hereditary conditions covered after a 12-month waiting period (e.g., hip dysplasia, glaucoma).
Why These Changes?
These adjustments are introduced by our insurance partner to ensure the long-term sustainability of our pet insurance portfolio. Your feedback has also led to a positive update on the expanded hereditary condition coverage. While some exclusions have been introduced, it's crucial to recognize that Oyen continues to cover a wide array of pet health issues.
